The most expensive train station and mall in the world. Oculus in New York City

The new train station and Oculus mall was opened in New York City this year. It is the biggest and most expensive train station in the world. Also it is a transport hub of the World Trade Center, which serves around 200,000 passengers daily. Oculus connects New Jersey trains with New York City subway. This train station and mall was built on the place of the destroyed station during of 9/11. Also, Oculus is the huge trade center and a spot for different events (especially, for winter season when events under opened sky are not so comfortable).

Oculus is a huge oval building of steel ribs and glass in Lower Manhattan. It was created by spanish architector Santiago Calatrava. What is a main architect idea of Oculus? This transit hub has to associate with a winged bird and also, this object has to be a symbol of love to NYC too. Size of station is 393 feet of length and 144 feet of width.

Criticism. Each big idea often causes a storm of criticism. Oculus is no exception. Station and Mall repeatedly were criticized for daring aesthetics, protracted implementation period... and of course for cost. According to the plan of creators, it should be spent 2.7 billion dollars, but they really spent 5.2 billions.

P.S. From myself, I can say only one thing the station turned out just gorgeous! Boldly, nice and tasteful. Perhaps most of all, I like there is no many people and no food odors. Overall, it is a decent place to rest.
